Content-Trajectory Independence
Canonical definition
Content-Trajectory Independence is the principle that the trajectory of Belief change is determined by the structure of the updating process and the pattern of inputs, not by the specific Content of the Beliefs, such that structurally identical updating processes operating on structurally similar input patterns will produce structurally identical trajectories regardless of whether the Beliefs concern consumer preferences, political loyalties, or genocidal scapegoating.
Explanation
Content-Trajectory Independence is the dynamic consequence of Content-Agnosticism. If the mechanism does not distinguish Content, then the path of updating does not distinguish Content either. A confabulation cascade converging toward "this brand is authentically what I want" and a confabulation cascade converging toward "this ethnic group is responsible for my suffering" follow the same mathematical trajectory if the structural parameters, coupling strength, evidence endogeneity, prior distribution, are equivalent. This is a terrifying implication, and it is precisely the implication that makes AIM's crisis predictions derivable rather than ad hoc. The trajectory toward crisis is not produced by especially bad Beliefs or especially evil people, it is produced by ordinary Bayesian updating operating on endogenous evidence in coupled systems. See Content-Agnosticism and Unifying Crisis Principle Derivation.
