Coupling-Induced Opacity

Canonical definition

Coupling-Induced Opacity is the extension of Source Opacity from input origin to input modality. A recalled Belief and a perceived fact share the downstream pathway into integration, and the modality tag is destroyed at the point at which the source-origin tag is destroyed, so the Individual holds no channel distinguishing endogenous Evidence from exogenous Evidence. A Belief recalled from the Belief Register and re-entering as Evidence under the Self-Coupling Permanence Principle, and the correlated attributions of other Individuals arriving through interpersonal coupling, are therefore credited with the weight of independent corroboration, so that a Hypothesis repeated often registers as a Hypothesis widely corroborated.

Explanation

When you recall something you already believe, or hear it repeated by the people around you, it arrives looking exactly like fresh evidence from the world. Nothing marks it as an echo. So the more often a claim is restated, by your own memory or by others who took it from the same place, the better supported it feels, even though nothing new has been learned. Confidence ends up tracking how often a thing is said rather than how much stands behind it.
