Culture

Canonical definition

Culture is the stock of priors a population holds in common, transmitted and stabilised over time through Entanglement dynamics: its Heuristics, which divide the world into the kinds the population recognises, and the templates written in those kinds, which fix which Objects carry Mimetic Premium within the population, which comparison-sets structure felt adequacy, which Models transmit prestige-biased content, and which conduct is honoured. Institutional structures crystallise parts of that stock into durable forms. Culture is held in the Thinker and reaches the Decision Hub through the Thinker's own input and the Observer's Salience, so Culture loads two of the three channels of direct input and never the Body Manager's. The AIM Weight profiles a population's behaviour displays are the effect of its Culture and not its substance. Culture is maintained by Contactless Updating on the population's shared use of that stock and is subject to the Referent on the same terms as the Heuristics that compose Culture. Cultural universals derive from shared neural architecture; cultural particulars derive from divergent entanglement histories and environmental constraints.

Explanation

Culture, on this account, is not a separate force acting on people from outside. It is what a population's copying looks like once it has been running for generations and has settled into a pattern: the kinds everyone here sorts the world into, which Objects everyone here treats as Salient, who everyone here measures themselves against, whose example carries weight, and which of those settlements have been built into institutions solid enough to outlive anyone who remembers choosing them. The reason every culture has something is that the architecture is shared. The reason no two have the same thing is that the histories of who copied whom are not. The pattern is inferred from behaviour across many Behavioural Episodes rather than measured, because what composes it is held in each member's thinking, and the AIM Weights that behaviour displays remain latent and shift with context.
