Effective Coupling Strength

Canonical definition

Effective Coupling Strength is the realised coupling strength after content-distance and memory-decay adjustments, representing the actual degree of Belief coupling experienced by an Individual in a specific context at a specific time, as opposed to the raw Coupling Strength parameter which abstracts away these contextual modulations.

Explanation

Effective Coupling Strength is what you actually experience after accounting for how close the content is to your existing concerns and how recently you encountered the coupling signal. Raw Coupling Strength is the structural parameter; Effective Coupling Strength is what the parameter becomes once it passes through the filters of relevance and recency. A social media feed may have high raw Coupling Strength, but its Effective Coupling Strength for a given Individual depends on whether the content matches that Individual’s active Belief domains and how recently similar content was encountered.
