AIM Framework glossary
Authenticity Trap
Canonical definition
The introspective demand "be authentic" or "find what you really want" that systematically fails to distinguish M-driven desire (which presents to introspection as authentic under Source Opacity) from genuinely I-driven desire, because the demand provides no architectural method for source-discrimination and the comfortable confabulation completion is "this is genuinely mine" (I-attribution) rather than "this was copied" (M-attribution), with the result that the demand systematically validates M-driven desire as authentic.
Explanation
The Authenticity Trap is the architectural reason that asking someone to "be authentic" or "find what they really want" cannot succeed without the AIM vocabulary. The introspective procedure has no method for distinguishing M-driven desire from I-driven desire, because both present to introspection with the same phenomenology of "I want this" and Source Opacity prevents the source-tag from being recovered. The directional asymmetry of confabulation completion makes the trap architecturally guaranteed: every time the introspective procedure asks "is this really mine?", the comfortable answer is yes (I-attribution), and the trap closes. The way out is not more introspection but the AIM vocabulary plus the Two-Question Diagnostic, which routes around the trap by asking behavioural questions (audience-removal, deficit-state) rather than introspective questions.
Epistemic status
Framework-Specific Construct; derived from Source Opacity (Axiom 3), Confabulation (Axiom 4), and Comfortable Confabulation.
Derivation

Source: Axiom 3 (Source Opacity); Axiom 4 (Confabulation); Chapter 2 (Comfortable Confabulation, Authenticity Belief, Two-Question Diagnostic entries). Direction-of-drift specification. The Authenticity Trap operates because the directional asymmetry of confabulation completion (Comfortable Confabulation) systematically validates M-driven desire as authentic. The trap is therefore architecturally guaranteed under Source Opacity for any Individual whose Hypothesis Space does not include the M-attribution Hypothesis, because the asymmetric direction of completion ensures the "this is mine" completion dominates. The trap is dissolved only by Knowledge Patch acquisition, which inserts the M-attribution Hypothesis into and makes the Two-Question Diagnostic available as a source-discriminating alternative to pure introspection.
