Self-Model

Canonical definition

The Self-Model is the subset of the Individual's Belief Register consisting of Beliefs about themselves, their identity, values, capacities, social position, and motivational profile, generated by the Confabulation architecture operating on source-opaque integrated signals, experienced as discovered self-knowledge but constituting a path-dependent confabulated narrative whose A-I-M composition is architecturally hidden from its owner.

Explanation

Your Self-Model is your internal story of who you are. It feels like you discovered it through experience, but it was actually constructed by the same brain system that generates all Confabulations, a system that does not have access to which of your desires came from bodily needs, genuine engagement, or copying others. Your sense of identity is as path-dependent as any other Belief: if you had encountered the same experiences in a different order, you would have a different sense of self, and you would be just as certain it was the real you.

Epistemic status
