Eliminative Structure of Crime
Canonical definition
The Eliminative Structure of Crime is the corollary that, because the Three-Source Taxonomy partitions all motivation into Appetites, Intrinsic Motivation, and Mimetic Desire with no fourth source (Axiom 1), harmful acts admit an exhaustive eliminative partition: securing A-floors closes the Appetite-driven branch (the act has nothing left to secure), securing the materials, instruments, and protected space for Intrinsic pursuit closes the Intrinsic-driven branch (the process-rewarding, self-regulating I-channel generates engagement, not harm), and the residue that survives is necessarily Mimetic, harm driven by a positional Object, which is the supercritical Conflict loop the framework already derives. The corollary reframes the two remedies: Cascading Support eliminates the A-driven and I-driven branches at their source by securing those two sources, and Cascading Consequences addresses only the Mimetic residue, which is why its instruments are lever-targeting and floor-preserving rather than restorative. The residue narrows further by the Non-Malice Corollary and network position: motiveless premeditated harm requires a node with secured A and engaged I, no positional Object, and no loaded loop, which is both motivationally sourceless under the partition and positionally isolated in the network, and this isolated residue is the genuine case for which incapacitation is reserved. Plain language. All wanting comes from just three sources, the body's needs, genuine interest, and status competition. So harmful acts have to come from one of those three too. If you make sure everyone's basic needs are met, nobody has to steal to survive, that branch is gone. If you make sure everyone has the tools, materials, and space to do things they find genuinely absorbing, the genuine-interest branch produces engagement, not harm, that branch is gone too. What is left is harm driven by status and rivalry, which is the runaway competition the framework already explains. This is why securing needs and meaningful activity is not just kind, it removes most of what we call crime at its root, leaving only the rivalry-driven residue and the rare, isolated case of someone who harms for no reason at all, which is the only case where simply containing the person is the answer.
