Hypothesis Space
Canonical definition
The Hypothesis Space, denoted , is the set of candidate Hypotheses currently representable by an Individual’s Conscious Cognition, over which probability mass is distributed by Bayesian Updating and across which the generative operation (Imagination) constructs new candidates. is not identical to the set of logically possible Hypotheses; it is the subset an Individual’s cognition can actually formulate and evaluate at a given time, bounded by conceptual vocabulary, acquired frameworks, and the current reach of the imaginative operation. Expansion of , whether endogenously through Imagination or exogenously through AIM Vocabulary Acquisition, is the architectural precondition for any truth-discovery in which the true generative Hypothesis H was previously absent from .
Explanation
Think of the Hypothesis Space as the list of possible explanations your mind is currently able to consider. You can only weigh up ideas that are on the list. If the right explanation is not on your list, no amount of careful reasoning will put it there; careful reasoning on a short list just gives you the best answer that was on the short list. New items get added to the list in two ways: your own imagination builds them from scratch, or someone hands you a ready-made concept (like “Mimetic Desire”) and you adopt it. Expanding the list is how you become able to reach new Truths; without expansion, you keep getting the most confident wrong answer the short list allows.
