Leadership Compression Principle
Canonical definition
Canonical Definition. The Leadership Compression Principle is the principle that executive power (command authority over crisis-relevant resources, information control, A-leverage over subordinates, and appointment power) concentrated in a single Individual compresses the temporal distance between that Individual’s Mimetic shock and societal crisis, because executive action can administratively impose crisis trajectories regardless of where the collective posterior sits. The forcing is conditional on M-Capture: the same concentrated executive power held by a non-Captured leader is not terminal and is in fact the agency through which buffers can be re-established and beneficial action taken. The Leadership Compression Principle is contingent in its antecedent and forced in its consequent only under M-Capture: whether a system reaches the terminal configuration (an M-Captured Individual holding authority above the threshold over a polity in Forced Quiescence, with the buffers that could manage a transition captured, or with no more than residual independence surviving) is contingent, and once that configuration obtains, neither waiting nor the removal of the leader averts the discharge, because the routes around the discharge are closed together: Differential Satiation Dynamics closes satisfaction, captured buffers store Accumulated Mimetic Debt rather than discharging it, and waiting adds to that debt and ends, the leader being mortal, in a removal. The leader's own act, the distribution of authority to institutions that hold it on independent bases, is the route Apex M-Capture forecloses: the Captured holder is I-Vacant, reads the loss of standing a transfer entails as a threat, and holds an Authenticity Belief that admits no internal correction. The event that sets the discharge off decides only its form, imposed crisis or the succession case, and its severity is set by the structure it meets, per the Trigger-Indifference Corollary.
Explanation
Concentrated executive power creates a shortcut: a single M-Captured leader can impose crisis-stage outcomes through executive action without waiting for population-wide Mimetic convergence, bypassing the corrective mechanisms that operate at population level. Hitler never achieved majority electoral support (peak 37.3 per cent) yet completed institutional capture within eighteen months and imposed persecution and war through executive action. The decisive variable is M-Capture, not concentration as such. A leader who holds great power but is not M-Captured at the apex can use that same authority to build independent institutions and progressively transfer power to them, so that the eventual transition meets institutions that hold authority on their own account; a buffer that depends on one Individual's continuing motivation is not yet a buffer, so what such a leader builds counts only once it stands without the leader. The terminal configuration is the M-Captured leader over a polity with the buffers that could manage a transition captured, or with no more than residual independence surviving: such a leader has nowhere to step to, because Apex M-Capture has left nothing outside the position, and the condition can be neither waited out nor ended by removal (the Trigger-Indifference Corollary). The fold is survivable where coupling limits leave survivors who restart civilisation from baseline, but under nuclear conditions the configuration removes the survivors themselves, so the fold becomes terminal for humanity and the planet, because the only recovery mechanism that has ever operated (surviving Individuals re-igniting from a perturbed baseline) is eliminated. Because the discharge is not averted once the configuration obtains, the agency that prevents it lives in the antecedent (preventing M-Captured concentration from arising, and distributing authority while an incumbent who has not foreclosed the distribution is in place), and the agency that remains afterwards acts on the structure the discharge will meet, chiefly through provision and information that do not run through the regime. The Leadership Compression Principle generates specific architectural requirements (multiple concurrent authorities for irreversible decisions, mandatory delay provisions, distributed cancellation authority, and selection mechanisms with anti-Mimetic constraints), and population-level Knowledge Patch distribution is necessary but insufficient.
