Saddle-Node Default
Canonical definition
Saddle-Node Default names the architectural entailment, established in Appendix A §A.5.3, that the generic bifurcation at G = Gcrit for high-PM systems under M1 through M5b is a Saddle-Node (Fold), in which the occupied fixed point and the neighbouring saddle collide and annihilate, producing a discontinuous jump to the surviving attractor rather than a sustained oscillation. Where the loop capacity exceeds its critical value the system carries two resting states and two fold boundaries, both at G = Gcrit: at the ignition boundary the low-V fixed point annihilates and the system transits to the inflated state, and at the release boundary the inflated-V fixed point annihilates and the system drops to the A-I functional baseline. Saddle-Node Default fixes the bifurcation type; the direction of the jump is fixed by the Ignition-Release Asymmetry. The entailment follows from three architectural properties: the absence of self-terminating negative feedback in the M-channel (M5b), Source Opacity suppression of error-correction (M5a, operating with Bayesian Lock-In), and the monotone accumulation of Concealment Infrastructure until forced visibility. The Hopf Sub-Case is non-generic and arises only under externally supplied damping. Saddle-Node Default is the fast-layer correspondent of the Calcified-to-Terminal transition in the Crisis State Architecture (Chapter 13).
Explanation
Saddle-Node Default is AIM's prediction that when a system dominated by Mimetic Premium finally loses its grip, it does not gradually wobble back to reality. It crashes. Bubbles do not deflate slowly to fair value. Scapegoating cascades do not taper off. Calcified institutional consensus does not negotiate itself back to Truth. The architecture has no built-in error-correction mechanism (Source Opacity hides the error, Concealment Infrastructure suppresses the signal, and the M-channel has no satiation), so once the supporting structure is overwhelmed, the only available motion is a one-way jump to the functional baseline that would have existed without the Mimetic Premium. The Hopf case (oscillation) is possible in principle but only if an outside force is actively damping the system, which is exactly what institutional buffers, the Knowledge Patch, and Subcriticality Maintenance try to provide.
Epistemic status
Named Result. Derived from Axioms 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 via the fast-layer dynamical system formalised in Appendix A. The Fold geometry is preserved in the joint fast-slow system per A.5.6 because the Evidence-Emission Coefficient is bounded and monotone, and the slow layer contributes no restoring force.*
