Misattribution Crowding-Out
Canonical definition
Misattribution Crowding-Out is the form of Crowding-Out in which intrinsic (I) engagement is displaced by a Belief, committed in error, that the engagement was driven by the Mimetic (M) channel. The M-Hypothesis that AIM Vocabulary Acquisition places in the Hypothesis Space can be committed where an Intrinsic pursuit is undertaken in a situation that presents as M-likely; the Observer then reads the pursuit under that Belief, the pursuit's Intrinsic valuation is discounted, and the pursuit can be given up though M had no part in it. The misattribution is made on the situation in which the I-Override gate fired and is corrected on the Behavioural Signatures, Private Persistence in particular.
Explanation
Misattribution Crowding-Out is talking yourself out of something you genuinely loved, by deciding you only liked it because other people did. Nothing about other people was driving you, but believing it was is enough to put you off. The check is simple: would you keep doing it with no one watching?
Epistemic status
Framework-Specific Construct. The architectural form of the discounting principle (Kelley, 1973), with a Model in the place of an external reward.
