Provenance-Signal Design Result
Canonical definition
The result that, because an artificial Proxy's coupling profile is a design property rather than an unavoidable social position, an artificial Proxy can be designed to expose, alongside its answer, an estimate of the Coupling Strength and Decoherence Time of that answer derived from the provenance of the sources the answer draws on. Such a signal tells the Individual whether a given response rests on independently checkable evidence or on the endogenous consensus of the training corpus, equipping the Individual to apply Epistemic Suspension exactly where the architecture warrants it. The signal is the structural opposite of the displayed engagement metrics that raise Coupling Strength on social platforms: it measures how far the Belief's evidence base stands from a test against physical reality, is embedded in the response itself rather than read off a crowd, and cannot be co-opted into a prestige cue because the artificial Proxy has no exogenous status position. The formal estimator mapping a set of cited sources to a Coupling Strength and Decoherence Time pair is a forward-looking design consideration left to subsequent technical work; the result's desirability does not depend on any particular implementation succeeding.
Explanation
Because an artificial Proxy's coupling profile is a design choice rather than a social inevitability, an artificial Proxy can be built to show the Individual, alongside its answer, a score for how checkable the evidence behind that answer is. That score is the structural opposite of engagement metrics: it measures distance from physical reality, not distance from the crowd, and because the artificial Proxy has no social status position, the score cannot be converted into a prestige signal.
