Self-Standing Confirmation Principle

Canonical definition

The standing an Individual attributes to themselves operates as the reference level against which every other Individual's standing is read, so that an error in it is applied to the whole field at once and is confirmed by the dealings it produces rather than corrected by them. Three steps close the cycle. The believed standing, held in the Self-Model, sets the baseline from which the dyadic estimate of each target is computed, that estimate being a reading of the target's position relative to the assessor and not of any absolute quantity. Conduct is then calibrated on the resulting gap, the Individual deferring, conceding position, pressing, or disregarding according to where the estimate places them. That conduct is observed, and the valuations others assign to the Individual-as-Object move with it, so the field returns valuations consistent with the standing the Individual brought to it. Nothing on the return path corrects the baseline: within each dealing the Interactional Confirmation Loop converts the encounter into a confirmation of the estimates both parties arrived with, and across dealings the Referent Absence Property leaves the believed standing without the structural decoherence that corrects a World-Model Belief. The Self-Standing Confirmation Principle is bidirectional, and the two directions differ in what they cost and in who bears the cost. Understated standing. An Individual who ranks themselves below where the field would place them reads gaps that are not there and concedes position in dealings where no concession was owed. The concessions are observed and lower the valuations others assign, so the field comes to hold the standing the Individual assumed, and the Individual reads that lowered standing as confirmation. The cost runs past regard into provisioning, because position conceded is provisioning forgone, and an Individual the field treats as low-Status is allocated less of what the field distributes. Sustained Appetitive deficit then attenuates the weight placed on incoming evidence, by the fidelity-attenuation channel of the Upstream Corruption Principle, which removes the corrective capacity that might have revised the baseline. The loop tightens as it runs, and its terminal form is an Individual held below the A-Floor by a mechanism that presents throughout as their own disposition. Overstated standing. An Individual who ranks themselves above where the field would place them reads gaps in their own favour, presses where no entitlement exists, and discounts the resistance the estimate's cost limb should have registered. The deference so extracted is then read as evidence for the standing that extracted it, so no term in the loop registers the overstatement as error. The behavioural signature is the one ordinary vocabulary reaches for when it speaks of grandiosity, entitlement, and instrumental disregard for the position of others. Neither direction is self-limiting: the architecture supplies no term that reads a mis-set baseline as mis-set, in either direction, because in both the field's returning valuations are the product of the baseline rather than a test of it. The Self-Standing Confirmation Principle does not hold that the field's valuation is correct. The field's reading of an Individual is itself Mimetic-Premium-inflated and Confabulation-ratified, and nothing established here licenses treating that reading as the truth against which self-standing should be calibrated. What the Self-Standing Confirmation Principle establishes is narrower and worse: the baseline and the field's valuation converge on one another whatever either's relation to anything outside the loop, which is why the convergence carries no evidential weight, and why the correction is an intervention on the Self-Model rather than an instruction to defer to the field. A fall in standing produces the overstated direction without any error of self-estimate: held against a field that has withdrawn it, the believed standing produces Grievance Beliefs, and relinquished, it leaves Status Death recognised (Chapter 15, Section 15.10.2).

Explanation

Where you place yourself is where you measure everyone else from. Nobody carries an absolute reading of another person's importance; what you actually compute is a gap, whether this person is above you or below you, and how far. That means your estimate of your own standing is not one belief among your beliefs about people. It is the zero point on the ruler you use for all of them. The trouble is that the ruler adjusts the world to fit itself. If you hold yourself low, you give way in situations where you did not have to, and people watching you give way think less of you for it, and now the world agrees with the reading you started with. If you hold yourself high, you push where you had no standing to push, people accommodate you, and you take their accommodation as proof you were right. Either way you end each encounter with more confidence than you began, and no better information than you began with. The low version is the more damaging one, because it does not stop at how you are regarded. Position given away is provisioning given away, and going short of what your body needs makes you worse at weighing new evidence, which is exactly the capacity you would need to notice the mistake. The loop pulls tighter the longer it runs. None of this means other people have you correctly measured and you should adjust to their view. Their reading of you is inflated and confabulated like every other valuation in the system. The point is worse than that: your reading and theirs come into agreement because each is producing the other, so the agreement between them tells you nothing at all. That is why the fix is to work on the story you hold about yourself, not to take the field's word for it.
