A-Default Confabulation Principle

Canonical definition

The A-Default Confabulation Principle is the principle that orthodox economics, lacking source-disaggregation vocabulary in its Hypothesis Space, defaults to A-attribution as the motivational substrate of monetary exchange and absorbs the I and M residuals into Object-level partitions (necessity-luxury, consumption-investment, discretionary-non-discretionary) that perform tacit source-decomposition through Object properties rather than through Decision Hub integration. The A-Default Confabulation Principle is derived by analogical extension of Axiom 4 to the disciplinary scale, where shared Hypothesis Space among practitioners functions as a collective prior subject to the Confabulation Rationality Lemma and to the coupled-system dynamics formalised under Quantum Epistemology. The partitions are Confabulations in the technical sense: they achieve disciplinary cognitive closure under the Vocabulary Gap (Hilbert Collapse) layer of the Camouflage Architecture by selecting the most physiologically obvious source (A) and routing the unaccounted residual through Object-class partitions, thereby preserving the appearance of a unified motivational theory while smuggling in the disaggregation the discipline formally denies. Engel's Law, Veblen's account of conspicuous consumption, and the Maslow hierarchy's economic borrowings are the three principal concession sites at which the discipline involuntarily acknowledges that the A-default fails, without the disciplinary machinery to act on the acknowledgement. The A-Default Confabulation Principle entails the GDP Source-Blindness Corollary at the per-transaction throughput rung of the Aggregation Gradient, qualified by the Macro-Residue Visibility Principle at the population rung.

Explanation

Mainstream economics had to ground its theory of price in some account of why people want things, and because it had no vocabulary for distinguishing physiological needs from intrinsic interest from socially-transmitted wanting, it picked the most obvious source (needs) as the default and pushed everything else into a residual labelled "preferences" or "luxuries" or "discretionary spending." The labels do real source-decomposition work by Object class (food versus jewellery, necessities versus luxuries) without naming what is actually being decomposed (A versus I versus M). The economic profession is doing AIM's job for it, badly, while denying that the job needs doing. Engel's Law is the discipline noticing that A satiates and something else takes over, Veblen is the discipline noticing that M exists, Maslow is the discipline noticing that motivation has structure, but none of these get integrated into the foundational substrate because the framework cannot name them. The same problem infects GDP and per-transaction national accounts: every dollar of monetary flow is treated as if it were the same kind of thing, when actually some of it is A-provision, some is I-output, some is PM-extraction, and some is M-consumption, and the four behave completely differently. (At higher levels of aggregation, the Macro-Residue Visibility Principle establishes that the source-decomposition leaves observable population-scale signatures even when per-transaction concealment is total.)

Epistemic status

Framework-Specific Principle. Derived by analogical extension from Axiom 4 (Confabulation), Axiom 8 (Bayesian Belief Dynamics), the Confabulation Rationality Lemma, and the Camouflage Architecture's Vocabulary Gap (Hilbert Collapse) layer.
