AIM Framework glossary

Action Episode

Canonical definition

An Action Episode is a Behavioural Episode in which the Decision Hub selected and executed at least one action: a bounded interval of observable conduct containing motor or speech output directed at an Object, analysed as a unit for what the executed action reveals about the mix of A, I, and M that produced it.

Explanation

Rather than labelling a whole life, AIM looks at concrete intervals, such as “wrote this report from 3–5pm” or “bought this particular product during this shopping trip.” Each has a clear beginning and end and is analysed on its own terms to infer how much A, I, and M contributed to the action being undertaken. The Action Episode is the action-bearing case of the wider unit: an interval in which nothing was executed is a Behavioural Episode and remains a unit of inference, and for several of the framework's diagnostics it is the more informative of the two.
