Forced Quiescence

Canonical definition

Forced Quiescence is the suppression of visible mimetic dynamics through monopolistic control over every channel through which those dynamics would normally manifest. It is structurally distinct from Subcriticality: under Subcriticality, mimetic dynamics operate but are constrained by independent institutional friction; under Forced Quiescence, mimetic dynamics are not constrained but concealed. The system appears stable because the only Individual whose M-dynamics could trigger visible crisis, the dictator, has no domestic rivals against whom to escalate. Under Forced Quiescence, κ (Coupling Strength) approaches maximum because the system's entire evidence base is endogenous, and τ (Decoherence Time) is artificially extended because reality cannot intrude through the channels it would normally use. Errors accumulate across five channels: elite mimetic competition, Confabulation correction, institutional competence, A-floor independence, and I-domain access.

Explanation

A fake calm where a dictator suppresses all the signs of trouble rather than actually fixing the problems. Things look peaceful on the surface, but all the rivalries, errors, and pressures are building up invisibly behind the dam of total control. The longer the suppression continues, the more pressure accumulates, and the more catastrophic the eventual release. Substrate specification. Forced Quiescence accumulates Mimetic Debt across four architecturally distinct channels: M-suppression (the suppressed mimetic competition that compounds during the suppression interval), A-floor contingency (the suppressed A-precarity that becomes manifest on suppression release), I-domain destruction (the suppressed I-engagement that has eroded during the suppression interval), and Confabulation accumulation (the uncorrected narratives that have compounded under the suppression’s exogenous-evidence absence). Succession Decoherence releases all four channels simultaneously, producing the Seneca Asymmetry between gradual accumulation and catastrophic release. Intervention design during Forced Quiescence must address all four channels; addressing only M-suppression release is insufficient.
