Object Parasitism

Canonical definition

The architectural failure mode of the AIM operational loop whereby M-Salience grounded in other Individuals' valuations is mis-attributed by I to A-deficits or I-opportunities, producing acquisition behaviour whose termination conditions (A-satiation, I-boredom) never engage because no genuine A-deficit or I-opportunity was present. Object Parasitism follows from three premises operating jointly, (i) M is the continuous Object-assessment channel and structurally cannot produce Objects, because the direction of computation is Object → valuation and no inversion is available within the channel, (ii) Source Opacity tag-strips the integrated Scalar such that I cannot recover source-identity information, and (iii) I's Hypothesis Space about M is impoverished (the Vocabulary Gap / Hilbert Collapse). Under these conditions I returns a Confabulated A- or I-ground, the Decision Hub initiates acquisition on the Confabulated ground, the acquired Object resets M's Model-tracking and comparative-position data, I's priors about M update in ways that lock in the Confabulated ground on the next iteration, and the loop restarts without termination. Object Parasitism is therefore not a failure of M's architectural function but a consequence of Source Opacity corrupting I's ability to correctly interpret M's outputs. It takes the form of Mimetic Premium deposition on whatever A-I Objects are available for comparison. [Axiom 5: M as Amplifier / Object Parasitism] Object Parasitism is conditional on an agent-populated field: it is the failure mode that arises when the Observer's baseline function operates on a field containing other agents whose valuations can be observed, and it does not arise where no agent-valuation is present to be mis-resolved. Emission teleology. The same result follows from the emission side: where the Individual acts to be Salient to others, Salience is achieved through Objects that Models are seen to value, so the Object is the vehicle and Salience is the goal. M therefore borrows whatever Objects carry Salience in the reference set on both the detection side (M reads Salient Objects) and the emission side (M displays through Salient Objects), which is why M never requires an Object-class of its own.

Explanation

Object Parasitism is what happens when the motivational system mistakes one kind of signal for another and gets stuck in a loop. M is always scanning the world and flagging things as Salient, which is its job. Some of those flags are because other people value the thing, not because you need it or would enjoy it for its own sake. If I does not have "other people value this" on its list of possible explanations, I will conclude that the thing must be needed or worth engaging with, and you will acquire it. But because you did not actually need it and were not actually going to engage with it, the normal stopping signals (feeling full, getting bored) never fire. The acquired thing resets the social-comparison picture, which feeds back into M, and the whole loop runs again with a different thing. That is Object Parasitism, and it is the mechanism behind status races, consumer cycles, and a lot of what looks like insatiable wanting. Fixing it does not mean switching M off (which would be disastrous, M is necessary), it means adding the missing option to I's library. Status-signalling corollary. Because M cannot generate independent Objects, Status cannot be directly purchased, no transaction between two parties can bind the freely-given valuations of the network. Status can therefore only be signalled through Objects that carry independent A-I function, the luxury car signals Status only because it also provides transportation (A) and potentially driving pleasure (I), the signal succeeds only if observers freely update their valuations in response to what the Object implies about its possessor (wealth, taste, access, achievement). The parasitism is double, M-mis-attribution depends on A-I Objects for signalling substrate, and Status constitution depends on the network's freely-given regard, neither dependency can be circumvented through transaction.

Epistemic status

Canonical. Object Parasitism is the failure mode of I's resolution under Source Opacity and an impoverished M-Hypothesis Space, not a property of M's operation.
