AIM Framework glossary
Revelation Effect
Canonical definition
The Revelation Effect is the phenomenon whereby M-shock involuntarily reveals the M-composition of the prior Self-Model by removing the reference group against which M-grounded identity elements were defined, exposing as M-dependent those elements the Individual had experienced as I-grounded or A-grounded, thereby functioning as an involuntary version of the Two-Question Diagnostic.
Explanation
The Revelation Effect is what happens when you change social environments and discover that things you thought you genuinely loved, your career, your neighbourhood, your lifestyle, lose their appeal when the audience changes. The change did not take away the activity; it took away the comparison group. If the motivation collapses, it was M-grounded all along. The disruption revealed what the Two-Question Diagnostic is designed to test.
Epistemic status
Framework-Specific Construct. Derived from the Self-Model Disruption Principle and Object Parasitism (Axiom 5).
