Correction Asymmetry
Canonical definition
Correction Asymmetry is the structural disadvantage of post-adoption evaluation relative to pre-adoption filtering: the evaluator corrects from a non-neutral starting point (the desire already feels authentic due to Source Opacity, reasons have already been confabulated, and the evaluation criteria are themselves partly mimetically constituted) rather than deciding from a clean slate.
Explanation
The Speed-Selectivity Trade-Off establishes that pre-adoption filtering is architecturally impossible at the required timescale. Post-adoption evaluation via I-Override is the only available intervention point. But this evaluation is structurally compromised in three ways: (1) Source Opacity means the desire already feels authentic, with no phenomenological trace of mimetic origin; (2) Confabulation has already generated A-sounding or I-sounding justifications drawing on real Object-properties guaranteed by Object Parasitism; (3) the Self-Model against which the Individual evaluates the desire is itself a confabulated narrative whose A-I-M composition is hidden from its owner. What exists is correction from a preset starting position, not prevention. The existence of correction is itself proof that adoption has already occurred. The asymmetry in processing terms. The disadvantage is not only one of starting position but of what each operation costs to run. Comparison is automatic: it fires preconsciously, without intention, below awareness, and independently of whatever cognitive resources happen to be available. Correction is controlled: it requires those resources, conscious awareness, deliberate effort, and attentional capacity present at the moment it is needed. The comparison therefore runs whenever the conditions for it obtain, and the correction runs only when the Individual has capacity to spare. This is why fatigue, time pressure and cognitive load remove the correction while leaving the comparison entirely intact, and why the asymmetry widens precisely under the conditions in which an Individual has least capacity to detect it.
