AIM Framework glossary

Fear

Canonical definition

Fear is avoidance of an Individual toward whom Relatedness is not engaged: the other is read as a danger. The Agent-Type Vector reads Fear as Predator-weight. Fear is the avoid side of Salience, runs on the fast timescale, moves the self, does not compound, and relaxes when the other leaves the field. Where escape is blocked and the threat is imminent, Fear issues in Self-Defence.

Explanation

Fear moves you away from what threatens you, and it fades when the threat is out of sight. It does not build on itself. When there is no way out, it fights only until there is one.

Epistemic status

Framework-Specific Construct. Derived from Salience (Chapter 9, Section 9.15.1; Appendix A, Sections A.2.1 and A.5.10).

Derivation

Chapter 9, Section 9.15.7.
