AIM Framework glossary
Dread
Canonical definition
Dread is avoidance of an Individual held at negative Relatedness: the Belief is that the other's gain is the Individual's loss, and the other is read as a danger. The Agent-Type Vector reads Dread as Rival-weight and Predator-weight together. Dread runs on the slow timescale, persists wherever the other stays present and withdrawal is costly, and selects withdrawal (leaving the town or the country) when it acts. It turns to Hate where the approach comes to outweigh the avoidance. Dread can resolve toward Love, through Reverence, where Evidence shows the other's gain to count with the Individual's own; captivity is the limiting case.
Explanation
Dread is living within reach of someone or something you believe is against you and that you cannot easily get away from, as under an oppressive government. It can last for years, and it often ends in leaving.
