I-Template Override Result

Canonical definition

The derived consequence that, where the Thinker’s priors have been configured to discount the Body Manager’s deficits (for example the fast, the vigil, the ordeal, or a Glory-template reframing of bodily sacrifice as honour), the Body Manager’s single unshaped channel can be outvoted by the two Thinker-shaped channels at the Decision Hub, so that cultural configuration of the Thinker’s templates overrides bodily survival signalling. Follows from the Channel-Count Asymmetry. The fast-layer formalisation is at Appendix A.5.9.

Explanation

If the reasoning self has been taught that ignoring the body is noble, it can override the body’s alarm, because it controls two of the three votes. This is why people can starve themselves, march into danger, or push past exhaustion when a Belief system tells them to.

Epistemic status

Framework-Specific Construct.

Derivation

Chapter 4, Section 4.4.12; Appendix A, Section A.5.9.
