AIM Framework glossary

Institutional Brake

Canonical definition

Institutional Brake describes institutional architectures functioning as independent friction on Bayesian cascade velocity, each imposing temporal delay and reducing cascade transmission probability through the implementation chain from leadership Decision Hub to collective action.

Explanation

Courts, free press, separation of powers, and professional bureaucracies each slow down the process of turning a leader's bad impulse into a national disaster, and because they work independently, you'd have to break all of them at once to remove the protection. See Multiplicative Friction Model, Correction Windows, Leadership Compression Principle.

Epistemic status
