Pre-Loading

Canonical definition

Pre-Loading is the upstream operating mode of the Knowledge Patch: the conscious installation, ahead of the valuation cycle, of standing priors into the Belief Register that condition the Observer's Salience computation before it runs. Where the Patch's interceptive channels act on a signal already computed and integrated (the I-Override gate between valuation and motor output; Hypothesis-Space enlargement and Interference-Term maintenance on the slow layer's resolution of the integrated Scalar), Pre-Loading acts through the Thinker's prior-maintenance function and the Belief Register's salience-conditioning templates, lowering the amplitude of what enters the loop at source. The mode is architecturally grounded in the Minimum Installation Condition's magnitude clause: observation of another Individual's directional valence opens the installation gate whatever the priors, but the installed signal's Salience weight is set by the priors the Belief Register is currently delivering, so deliberate revision of those priors is a volume control on the loop's input. Installation of a Pre-Loaded prior is subject to ordinary Belief-Register Update dynamics: it requires repeated Ground-Resolution cycles, not a single insight. Pre-Loading operates through two channels, Low-Salience Pre-Loading and Divergent-Path Pre-Loading, bounded respectively by the Salience Floor and the Testimony Floor.

Explanation

The rest of the Knowledge Patch teaches you to catch a mimetic pull after it fires. Pre-Loading turns the volume down before it fires, by deliberately installing Beliefs that change how loudly the watching part of the mind flags what other people want. You cannot stop the flagging (that gate opens whatever you believe) but the loudness of each flag is set by what you currently believe, and Beliefs can be chosen and practised in advance.

Epistemic status

Framework-Specific Construct. Derived consequence of the Thinker's prior-maintenance function (Chapter 4 Section 4.4.3), the Belief Register (Chapter 2), and the Minimum Installation Condition's magnitude clause; generalises the prospective prior re-loading result of Chapter 18 §18.17 from retrospective per-episode to standing prospective operation. Not an additional axiom; no new primitives.

Derivation

Chapter 18, Section 18.17.
