Referent Primacy Principle
Canonical definition
Where a Decision Hub or a coupled system of Decision Hubs holds a Belief for which an exogenous Referent is available, that is, a determinate fact about the world established by a test of traced provenance that has already decohered against reality, the exogenous Referent takes strict priority over any endogenous positioning the Belief also affords. A Belief held in contradiction of an available decohered Referent is a Confabulation. Choosing the endogenous position over the Referent is neither pragmatically defensible nor principled. It is not a justified trade of Truth for utility, nor a principled stand of any kind. It is simply wrong. It is not epistemically defensible to accept a known Confabulation over acceptance of the Referent.
Explanation
If the world has already answered a question, and the answer was reached by a method you can trace back to a real test rather than to what other people believe, then that answer wins. It wins over how good the Belief feels, over the identity it lets you hold, and over the social position it lets you occupy. The reason this needs stating is that the architecture does not enforce it on its own. A Belief can deliver two separate things at once: a claim about the world, and a place to stand relative to other people. These come bundled, and Source Opacity means the Individual cannot feel which one is generating the value. So the Individual can go on holding a Belief because of the place it gives them long after the world has shown the Belief to be false. At that point the Belief is a Confabulation, a sincere Belief that is wrong, and holding it in the face of an established Referent is not a defensible choice between two open options. One side is known to be false. It is tempting to defend the choice as practical (it does something useful for the person who holds it) or as principled (it stands for something). It is neither. There is no pragmatic justification and no principle that rescues accepting a Belief you know to be false over the fact the world has already settled. It is simply wrong.
Epistemic status
Framework-Specific Principle. Normative complement to the Provenance Rule: where the Provenance Rule instructs doubt toward Beliefs of untraced provenance, the Referent Primacy Principle instructs deference to decohered Referents. Together the two rules close the loop, doubt the endogenous; obey the decohered.
