Class 1 Intervention

Canonical definition

**Class 1 Intervention is an intervention on the forcing that reaches the mimetic loop from outside it. At the scale of a single Individual that forcing is the Ignition Input m_obs(t) of the fast valuation system specified in Appendix A; across a population it is carried by the Observability Matrix, whose spectral radius governs the rate at which a realised valuation in one Individual becomes an observed Model signal for another, and the two enter one threshold additively at the fold (Appendix A, Section A.5.7.4). Class 1 interventions reduce the stream of observed Model signals reaching Individuals' perceptual apparatus. Examples include visibility suppression of specific Model classes or Object categories (media norms such as the Don't Name Them principle for spree-killer coverage), platform-level hiding of engagement metrics, sumptuary-style restrictions on visible display of positional Objects, and opacity regimes over salaries and prices. Class 1 interventions have a first-order effect on the operating point of the fast-valuation fixed point and a second-order effect on stability through the dependence of σ'(V*) on operating-point location; at the network scale the reduction in the Observability Matrix's spectral radius lowers the total gain directly rather than only through the operating point.**

Explanation

A Class 1 intervention turns down the flow of visible Model signals reaching Individuals. If we stop publicising what spree killers did, or hide how much other people are earning, or restrict visible luxury display, we reduce how much Model-observation drives the preconscious mimetic signal. These interventions do not prevent mimetic activation (that is architecturally impossible), but they lower the baseline level of activation and can indirectly help stabilise the internal loop by reducing where the system sits on its response curve.
