Physician-Heal-Thyself Principle

Canonical definition

Canonical layer. The architectural conclusion that, because Conflict is a system failure state of the interface between human Decision Hubs and no mechanic external to humanity is available to diagnose or repair that interface, humanity must perform the diagnostic and repair function on itself, upstream of Conflict, under continuous self-audit to prevent Mimetic capture of the diagnostic vocabulary. The capacity to discharge the Mechanic's Obligation is necessarily located within the human population itself rather than in any external agent, because every candidate bearer of the Mechanic's Obligation is composed of Individuals whose Decision Hubs run the identical AIM architecture, and no vantage point exterior to that architecture is available. The Knowledge Patch is the unique and sufficient instrument through which the Mechanic's Obligation can be discharged, because it operates downstream of the architectural features (Source Opacity, Confabulation, Object Parasitism) that produce the conflict failure mode, supplying the conceptual vocabulary (Epistemic Suspension, Two-Question Diagnostic, Presumption Against Scapegoating, substrate-disaggregation protocol, structural literacy regarding the Camouflage Architecture) required by I-Override to intercept confabulated action-readiness prior to completion, and it does so without requiring modification of the mimetic capacity whose removal would also destroy cumulative cultural transmission. The Mechanic's Obligation must be performed upstream of Conflict rather than in response to Conflict, and under continuous self-audit, because the same Source Opacity and Confabulation dynamics that produce conflict failure modes also operate on the diagnostic tools developed to address them: any diagnostic vocabulary humanity develops to heal itself will immediately attract Mimetic Premium and risk capture, and the physician healing itself must therefore continuously audit whether the diagnostic work has itself become a status game. Acquisition and application of the Knowledge Patch is itself an I-engagement returning I-reward, which supplies the architectural basis for propagation through positive mimesis rather than imposition. The Mechanic's Obligation is discharged recursively: each Individual who internalises the Patch becomes a bearer of the Mechanic's Obligation within their accessible scale of social organisation, and the collective density of literate bearers across the five scales (Individual, dyadic and small-group, coalitional and organisational, national, civilisational) determines whether discharge at each scale reaches the threshold required to prevent catastrophic reconfiguration at that scale before it occurs. The framework's dissemination is constitutive of this discharge, since dissemination is the process by which the Patch, which is the instrument of discharge, is supplied to bearers who would otherwise lack it.

Explanation

There is no one coming to fix the machine from outside. There never will be, because every candidate fixer is made of the same stuff as the machine. The only thing that can work is for the machine to fix itself, and the only tool the machine has for this job is the conceptual understanding of its own architecture that lets it recognise grinding when grinding starts, work out whether the substrate is A, I, or predominantly M, and apply the right lubricant before the damage becomes irreparable. The work of healing has to start before the grinding starts, not after. And because the same machinery that creates the problem also operates on the people trying to fix it, anyone doing the fixing has to keep asking whether the fixing itself has become a status game, because it can, and the AIM architecture provides no exemption. The Knowledge Patch is that lubricant. Learning to use it is itself a piece of meaningful work (an I-engagement) that rewards the Individual who takes it on, which is part of why it can spread through ordinary positive mimesis rather than having to be imposed. Writing it, sharing it, teaching it, and embedding it in the institutions that need it is not theorising about the problem; it is producing and distributing the tool. "Physician, heal thyself" is not a rebuke here. It is the job description.
